🌿Assalamu Alaikum, Dallas!
We're back with a full issue and this one has a lot of heart behind it. This week we're shining a light on Sister Carole Strum and Kindred Barakah, a local charity doing quietly powerful work to feed and support families right here in our community. They need our help — and we'll tell you exactly how to give it. We've also got a halal find that will transport you straight to Tehran without leaving Richardson (Arash Persian Grill is everything), plus a weekend lineup that runs the gamut from a motherhood support circle over coffee to a community town hall on Islamophobia that every Muslim in DFW should know about. Oh, and if the kids need somewhere to burn some energy, we've got you covered there too. Let's get into it. 🌿
💭 FAITH REFLECTION — Keep Giving. The Need Didn't Stop When Eid Did.
Think about what Allah gave you in 2026 alone.
Ramadan — thirty days of fasting, Quran, and an open hand toward every cause that crossed your path. And then, just weeks later, the first ten days of Dhul Hijjah — days of sacrifice, Qurbani, and giving that stretched across the ummah. Two of the greatest seasons of generosity in the entire Islamic calendar. Back to back. This year.
But here's the thing about need — it doesn't follow a calendar. The families who were hungry during Ramadan are still hungry. The people who needed help before Eid still need help today. The blessed days created a wave of generosity across our community, and that wave is too powerful to just let quietly die down.
"The likeness of those who spend their wealth in the way of Allah is as the likeness of a grain that sprouts seven ears, in each ear a hundred grains." (Al-Baqarah: 261)
Allah doesn't multiply only the Ramadan dirham or the Dhul Hijjah dollar. He multiplies what is given sincerely — in any month, on any ordinary Friday, from any willing heart.
This week's action: Don't let your generosity go back to sleep now that the blessed seasons have passed. This week's spotlight features a local effort feeding families right here in DFW — and they need both your dollars and your time. Sadaqah doesn't have to be grand to be transformative. Show up. Give what you can. Keep the wave going.
❝ "Sadaqah does not decrease wealth." (Muslim) 🤍

COMMUNITY SERVICE HIGHLIGHT
Carole Sturm (OneNation Relief and Charity)

Feeding Families, One Act of Sadaqah at a Time
Most of us scroll past food insecurity statistics without thinking twice. Carole Sturm decided to do something about it. A familiar face in the DFW Muslim community, Carole runs the organization OneNation Relief and Charity, a local organization quietly doing some of the most meaningful on-the-ground work in our area. She is also collaborating with the charity arm of Kindred Barakah. Right now she is actively supporting over 30 mostly Muslim local families who are food insecure, sick, or in genuine need. Also, every month, the charity provides a breakfast to a local homeless shelter, and every other month they host a full community dinner and packed lunch there as well. The monthly breakfast costs $300 to fund, and the dinners and lunches run $1,400. Carole and her team have been fundraising and putting together those meals for years. Unfortunately this month they have had to cancel because of lack of funds. We are hoping our loyal subscribers can help out with sadaqah and their time to volunteer.
Carole also wants people to learn about one of the ways our community can help is through food rescue. Most people don't know that if you have leftover food from a wedding, a large gathering, or even a restaurant closing for the night, you can donate it directly to the charity and you are fully protected. The Bill Emerson Good Samaritan Food Donation Act is a federal law that shields both donors and registered charities from liability when cooked food is donated in good faith. That means your leftover catering, your wedding feast, your restaurant's end-of-night surplus — all of it can feed a family tonight instead of filling a trash bag. Carole is especially hoping to connect with local halal restaurants interested in donating unsold food at the end of the day. If that's you, please reach out.
📞 Get Involved 💛 Donate or ask questions: Text/WhatsApp Carole at 817-229-9229 💳 For tax receipts: Zelle: [email protected] or go to https://kindredbarakah.com and click on donate. If you don’t need a receipt or want your donation to remain anonymous you can Zelle 817-229-9229 (Safiyah Khan)
🙋 Volunteers needed for monthly breakfast ($300 to sponsor) and bi-monthly dinner ($1,400 to sponsor). Sponsorship or giving your time to help pack the food is always welcome.
May Allah multiply every act of generosity and accept it as sadaqah jariyah. 🤍
