🌿Assalamu Alaikum, Dallas!
This week we're shining a light on Green Vine Market in Plano, a specialty halal grocery store that truly feels like a hidden gem our community deserves to know about. Highlighting local Muslim-owned businesses is one of our favorite things to do because of our genuine desire to help Muslim businesses grow through community exposure. Every spotlight we publish is our way of saying: your work matters, your business matters, and this community wants to support you. If you know a Muslim-owned business in DFW that deserves a spotlight; a restaurant, a service, a shop, a nonprofit, anything please let us know, just reply to this email. We'd love to feature them. On that note, let's get into this week’s newsletter. 🌿
💭FAITH REFLECTION — Let Go
Tawakul is not passivity. It's not sitting back and doing nothing while waiting for things to work out. Anas ibn Malik reported: A man said, “O Messenger of Allah, should I tie my camel and trust in Allah, or should I leave her untied and trust in Allah?” The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Tie her and trust in Allah.”(Tirmidhi)
Do your part. Make the plan. Put in the effort. Take the step and then release the outcome to the One who controls all outcomes.
That release is the hard part. Because tawakul requires us to truly believe, not just say, that Allah's plan is better than ours. That what He withholds is as much a mercy as what He gives. That the door He closes was not the door we needed. And that He sees the full picture while we are only ever seeing a small corner of it.
"And whoever relies upon Allah — then He is sufficient for him. Indeed, Allah will accomplish His purpose. Allah has already set for everything a decreed extent." (At-Talaq: 3)
This week's action: Identify one thing you've been carrying with anxiety; a decision, a situation, an outcome you've been trying to force or control and make a conscious decision to practice tawakul with it this week. Do whatever is within your ability to do, then make du'a and genuinely hand it over to Allah. When the worry creeps back in, respond with: "Hasbiyallahu wa ni'mal wakeel." Allah is sufficient for me, and He is the best disposer of affairs. Say it until your heart starts to believe it.
❝ Suhayb reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Wondrous is the affair of a believer, as there is good for him in every matter; this is not the case for anyone but a believer. If he experiences pleasure, he thanks Allah and it is good for him. If he experiences harm, he shows patience and it is good for him.” (Muslim) 🤍
