🌿Assalamu Alaikum, Dallas!
This week's newsletter is going out during the month of the Prophet’s ﷺ birth, and this week's reflection is a reminder to deepen that connection to him in ways that outlast this month. We're also spotlighting a business we can personally vouch for, Wood Wonders Fence, the family-owned Plano company that built our fence and did an exceptional job. If your fence has been on your to-do list, keep reading. And for dessert lovers, we found your new late-night spot: Kunafa Alaseel in Richardson is serving freshly made, authentic kunafa that is every bit as good as it looks. The weekend lineup has something for every age, from high school sisters in Allen to seniors 55+ at VRIC to young professional women on Sunday afternoon. Let's get into it. 🌿
💭 FAITH REFLECTION — The Man We Should Know Better Than Anyone
This month marks the birth of the greatest human being who ever walked this earth — the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. And while scholars differ on the specifics of how we mark this occasion, there is something every single one of us can agree on: we should know him. Really know him. Not just his name, not just a handful of hadith, but his laugh, his gentleness, his patience, the way he treated strangers and enemies and orphans and the elderly. The way he cried in prayer. The way he smiled at children. The way he lived.
Because here is the truth — you cannot love someone you don't know. And our love for the Prophet ﷺ is not meant to be a sentiment we feel once a year. It is meant to be a living, breathing connection that shapes how we speak, how we treat people, and how we move through the world every single day.
"The Prophet is more worthy of the believers than themselves." (Al-Ahzab: 6)
More worthy than ourselves. That is not a small statement. It means his example takes precedence over our own desires, our own habits, our own comfort. It means when we learn how he lived, we are learning how we are supposed to live.
And what a life it was. The companions who walked beside him said there was no one more generous, no one quicker to smile, no one more present with the person in front of them. Aisha (R.A.) described his character simply: "His character was the Quran." (Muslim) He didn't just recite it — he embodied it. Every ayah about mercy, about justice, about humility — you could see it in how he treated people on an ordinary Tuesday afternoon.
The Prophet ﷺ himself told us what our connection to him should feel like: "None of you truly believes until I am more beloved to him than his children, his father, and all of mankind." (Bukhari) That is a love that goes beyond admiration. It is a love that motivates, that transforms, that pulls you back when you drift.
This week's action: Take one small step this week to deepen your connection to the Prophet ﷺ. Read one chapter of a Seerah book — The Sealed Nectar is a beautiful place to start. Watch a lecture about his life. Share one story about him with your children at dinner. Send salawat upon him abundantly this month — "Allahumma salli 'ala Muhammad" — because the Prophet ﷺ said: "Whoever sends one salawat upon me, Allah will send ten blessings upon him." (Muslim) Ten blessings. For one salawat. This month, let's make it count.
❝ "Indeed, Allah and His angels send blessings upon the Prophet. O you who believe, send blessings upon him and greet him with a worthy greeting." (Al-Ahzab: 56) 🌿
